Coco is excited and grateful to announce our 2nd year as a partner with the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, supporting Black theatre. Coco Coalition supports any medium that promotes the liberation and empowerment of Black women. Supporting Black art and Black artists has always been integral to our identity. As African beings, we believe our creativity is a form of expression, spirituality, and a liberatory practice.

Our partnership with the Geffen Playhouse began last year as a supporting partner for the production Black Cypress Bayou. This year, we’re honored to return as a partner in support of the production Furlough’s Paradise. With our partnership, we have the opportunity to fundraise for Coco's work. This fundraiser directly empowers our work through the Coco Scholars Program, Coco Cares, and our community programming.

About Furlough’s Paradise
Don’t miss the West Coast Premiere of Furlough’s Paradise, written by A.K. Payne and directed by Tinashe Kajese-Bolden. Cousins Sade and Mina were once inseparable. Now leading very different lives, they return to their childhood town for the funeral of their mother and aunt. While Sade is on a three-day furlough from prison and Mina experiences a brief reprieve from her career and life on the West Coast, the two try to make sense of grief, home, love, and kinship. As the clock ticks down, they grapple with their conflicting memories of the past and their shared hopes for the future. Poetic and theatrical, Furlough’s Paradise explores family, dreams, and the utopias we long for but have yet to realize.
