Celebrating Community and Legacy at the First Coco Legacy Walk!

On Sunday, September 29th, we gathered at the stunning Lafayette Reservoir for a day filled with connection, purpose, and celebration. The first-ever Coco Legacy Walk was a tremendous success, bringing together 30 community members in support of the Coco Scholars Program—an initiative close to our hearts. Beyond fundraising, this event was a tribute to the memories and legacies that fuel Coco’s mission, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness of the physical and mental health challenges that disproportionately affect our communities.

While the sun shone bright and a crisp breeze welcomed the early morning walkers and runners, the essence of the day went far beyond exercise. It was about honoring the legacies of the individuals who inspired the creation of the Coco Scholars Program, and who continue to inspire us today.

Coco is proud to offer scholarships that empower Black college women pursuing careers in three critical areas: Mental Health, Civic Engagement, and the Arts. These scholarships are a tribute to the co-founders' parents, whose passion, advocacy, and contributions in these fields created lasting change. Their legacy is now embodied in the next generation of leaders we aim to uplift through this program.

Attendees enjoyed more than just a walk. Jasper Smith aka Mr. Build Wealth, our financial expert, offered valuable insights into financial planning, ensuring that our community left empowered in both body and mind. Some chose to run, while others took a leisurely stroll around the beautiful reservoir, all while connecting with new friends and supporters. The day’s atmosphere was one of joy, hope, and unity.

Thanks to our incredible community, we raised $2,500 to support the development of future scholars. We couldn't have done it without our dedicated volunteers, staff, and, of course, everyone who came out to show their support. Your commitment helps us continue providing these essential scholarships, which create life-changing opportunities for Black women.

If you couldn’t join us this year, don’t worry! Mark your calendars for September 27, 2025—we'll be back, bigger and better. Together, we’ll continue to walk, run, and rally around this important cause.

See you next year!
