OUR HERSTORY.
The organization's journey began in 2015 with a passion project and event known as the Black & Beautiful Women's Brunch, established in response to the tragic murder of Sandra Brown. This event catalyzed our commitment to creating safe spaces for female-identifying black women where they can learn about their rights, process their emotions, and access community and mental health resources. By the end of 2018, BBWB touched over 200 women, across six cities, four states, and two countries because our attendees desired a collective international network. Due to the growing success of BBWB and the expressed need to create similar spaces for women, the BBWB organizers co-founded Coco Coalition.
Over the past eight years, we have not only acknowledged the unique experiences of female-identifying Black women but also prioritized elevating the often invisible experiences within this population. Embracing the rich diversity within the Black community, we welcome each Black woman's distinct narrative into the Coco family. We currently offer in-person resources in the San Francisco Bay Area and virtually.
